On 7 October 2026 the Prague Public Transit Company began construction of a 1.8-kilometre tram line from Libuš to Nové Dvory, with trial operation planned for the end of 2028.

The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) began construction of a tram line from Libuš to Nové Dvory on 7 October 2026. A ceremonial laying of the foundation stone took place at the temporary Libuš turnback, with representatives of Prague City Hall, DPP, the city districts, the designer and the contractor taking part. Following a tender, the construction will be carried out by the company OHLA ŽS for 1.26 billion koruna excluding VAT. Tram service on the line is to start at the end of 2028.[1][2][3]
Route
The line, about 1.8 kilometres long, will connect to the Sídliště Modřany – Libuš section, which DPP put into operation at the end of May 2023, and will form a single operating unit with it. The tracks will run from the Libuš stop along Novodvorská street, and beyond the junction with Chýnovská they will end in a loop around a city block. The stops will be Libuš and Přírodní, and in the loop Chýnovská and Nové Dvory. The tracks in Novodvorská street will be grassed.[1][2][3]
The line is intended to serve a new city district planned at Nové Dvory near the Line D metro station there, and the surrounding development. DPP states that the line will provide a direct connection to places the metro will not reach, for example Modřany, Braník, Podolí, Palackého náměstí or Karlovo náměstí. Jaromír Beránek (Czech Pirate Party), the deputy mayor for transport, said that according to the current assumption part of the services of line 17 would continue to Nové Dvory first, and after the next stage of Line D is completed also lines 3 and 20.[1][3]
Underpass and water mains
During construction of the tracks at Libuš, the foundations of an underpass will be built that will in future link the tram stops with the southern concourse of the Libuš metro station on Line D. DPP will complete it during construction of the station; it announced the tender for the station shortly before the start of construction, with an estimated value of 3.76 billion koruna, and the station is to be finished in 2032.[1][2]
The works also include relocating two parallel water mains from Želivka, two kilometres long, because the pipes run partly through the future construction site of the metro station. For that reason the construction will last two construction seasons. Jan Šurovský, DPP's technical director for surface transport, said that in the first season only earthworks and the relocation of the mains will be carried out, which DPP would like to have completed by the end of 2027.[1][3]

On Wednesday 7 October 2026 DPP also opened new accessible request stops at Hodkovičky on the line between Modřany and Podolí. They lie roughly halfway between the Černý kůň and Belárie stops; construction took nine months and cost almost 30 million koruna excluding VAT. Day lines 3, 17 and 20 and night line 92 will stop there.[3][4] The construction of other lines is described, for example, in the article Start of construction of the Malovanka – Strahov tram line.
