The Libuš metro station on Line D is part of Line D of the Prague Metro, which is now under construction, which will link Náměstí Míru with Písnice and is meant to relieve traffic in the south of Prague. The Prague Public Transit Company has issued a tender for its construction with an estimated value of about 3.76 billion crowns excluding VAT.[1] According to Deputy Mayor for Transport Jaromír Beránek (Czech Pirate Party), Libuš is a densely populated part of Prague that urgently needs a high-capacity rail link.[2]
Technical design
Libuš will be a cut-and-cover station with an island platform and two concourses. The southern concourse will be built at the Libuš tram stops and linked to them by an underpass beneath Novodvorská street. The northern concourse, equipped with a lift, will stand on the eastern side of Novodvorská street between Machuldova and Cuřínova streets. The above-ground parts of both concourses are meant to form part of the ground floors of future developer-built housing.[2] According to Deputy Mayor Petr Hlaváček (Mayors and Independents), a land-use study is expected to lead to private development around the station, as well as a park with a square and affordable municipal housing.[2]
Construction schedule
Construction of Line D began in 2022 with the section between Pankrác and Ryšánka (formerly Olbrachtova). In 2026 construction of the section from Ryšánka to Nové Dvory, including the tunnels to Písnice, began with a delay of more than two years.[1][2] Construction of the Libuš station itself is to take 54 months from handover of the site, according to the company's spokesman Daniel Šabík; the company recently obtained a building permit for it.[1][2] Price is to be the only criterion for evaluating bids in the tender.[2]
The aim is to complete the station by 2032 so that it can be part of the first section of Line D to open, from Pankrác. Deputy Mayor for Transport Jaromír Beránek (Czech Pirate Party) said he was convinced that, thanks to good coordination of the individual construction stages, the station can be finished ahead of schedule and put into operation together with the first section of Metro D in 2032.[2]
Further development of Line D
Besides the section from Pankrác to Písnice, the plans also include a route of Line D from Pankrác to Náměstí Míru. According to the current schedule, the whole route is to start operating in 2036, and the city plans in the longer term to extend it to Náměstí Republiky.[2] Driverless trains are to run on the line; the company is now selecting them in a tender whose result the company's director, Ladislav Urbánek, previously expected in 2028. The city also plans to deploy automated trainsets on Line C.[2]
