Petr Pavel is the president of the Czech Republic.

Petr Pavel is the president of the Czech Republic [1][2]. He formally set the date of this year’s municipal and Senate elections, 9 and 10 October 2026, in June; under the amendment, local and regional elections are always held on Friday and Saturday of the first full week of October [1][2].
Absence from the municipal elections
On 2 October 2026 the communications department of the Kancelář prezidenta republiky announced that, because of a private trip abroad, Pavel will not take part in the vote in the election to the municipal council of Černouček in the Litoměřice area and that he regrets the planning error [1][2]. According to Prague Castle, he is travelling outside the European Union, remains in contact with the office and does not disclose specific places [1][2]. In his working schedule he is to continue on 19 October 2026 with the reception of ambassadors [1][2]. Political scientist Jan Kubáček described the head of state’s absence from the municipal elections as nothing fatal but somewhat unfortunate, because heads of state have traditionally associated themselves with the elections and urged people to take part in them [1].
Reception of an ambassador
According to Blesk, on Tuesday 29 September 2026 Pavel received at Prague Castle the credentials of the new Chinese ambassador Zhou Qian [3].
