Miroslav Hlaváč is Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces.[1]
In an interview with the Czech News Agency given on 13 October 2026, he said that Russia could test the unity of NATO by a partial attack on the territory of one of its member states. According to him, Russia is already operating in European countries through hybrid activities and cyberattacks aimed at weakening societies and support for Ukraine. In his words, the Czech army is ready to defend the country with the means it has.[2] He described fulfilling commitments to NATO, strengthening air defence and protection against drones as essential for defence capability.[2]
In October 2026 his name also appeared in a personnel matter of the Velitelství informačních a kybernetických sil. The commander of this command, Brigadier General Radek Haratek, asked to end his service relationship before fulfilling his service obligation. Hlaváč submitted the request to Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna on 2 September 2026. The Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, according to its statement, did not consider it sufficiently justified, and the minister ordered Hlaváč to propose Haratek's transfer to another post. Hlaváč held a personnel interview with Haratek on 1 October 2026.[3] According to a General Staff statement, Haratek continues as commander.[4]
