Bohuslav Svoboda is the mayor of the Capital City of Prague for ODS.[1] He has headed the city since February 2023.[3] He is not standing again in the municipal elections, which take place in Prague on 9 and 10 October 2026; the SPOLU coalition list is led by Tomáš Portlík.[1]

The European Union budget

In September 2026 Svoboda spoke in Brussels at a meeting of the European Parliament with representatives of the regions. He warned that the proposal for the new seven-year EU budget gives more flexibility to member states but does not give cities and regions sufficient guarantees. Prague wants to be certain that it will take part in shaping the programmes and in decisions on investments.[2] In an interview for the Czech News Agency, Svoboda said that the new budget is “well made for countries, but not for cities”.[2]
