Jan Lipavský is a member of the Chamber of Deputies for ODS and a former minister of foreign affairs [1][4]. In the government of Petr Fiala he held the post of foreign minister as a nominee of the Pirates, and after the Pirates left the cabinet he stayed in it as a non-party member. [5]

In September 2026 he agreed to cooperate with Tomáš Portlík, the candidate of the Spolu pro Prahu coalition for mayor. If Portlík becomes mayor after the October municipal elections, Lipavský will advise him free of charge on international relations, economic diplomacy and security. The two politicians announced the agreement to journalists on 24 September 2026 [1][4].

Lipavský, speaking as an unpaid adviser, said that he wants to work on firmly anchoring Prague in the democratic West, on economic diplomacy in demanding sectors, on congresses and large international events, and on security, which includes cybersecurity and civil protection [3]. He also wants to continue the cooperation with Taiwan that Prague began in the previous term of office [3]. To the words of the Russian ambassador Anna Ponomarjovová that the Czech government had softened its anti-Russian rhetoric, Lipavský reacted on 3 October 2026 by saying that, in his view, the ambassador is right and that ending Czech military and humanitarian support for Ukraine is in line with Russia's interests. [6]

He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies on the Prague candidate list of the Spolu coalition as a nominee of ODS, of which he was not a member as of 24 September 2026. [5]
