Police of the Czech Republic investigators in the Olomouc Region concluded the investigation into the murder of a taxi driver in Šumperk on 17 February 2026 and submitted to the public prosecutor a proposal to indict the 39-year-old accused man, who is also charged by police with attempted murder of two other people and faces 15 to 20 years in prison or an exceptional sentence.

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and SPD leader Tomio Okamura proposed that the Czech Republic push at the EU summit in Brussels for European leaders to negotiate with Russia on peace in Ukraine, and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš responded after the cabinet meeting that Okamura has no say in the European Council and that the mandate for the summit is approved by the government.
