The Starostové a nezávislí movement (STAN), together with Starosty pro Liberec Region, won the elections to the Senate of the Czech Republic for the first time in six years. Ten of fourteen candidates were elected, two of them already in the first round. The movement had been defending eleven seats.[1][2]
STAN chairman Vít Rakušan had repeatedly said before the elections that he would consider eight or more seats a success. After the elections, he called the result significantly better than he had expected, describing the ten seats as a clear victory.[1][2]
The movement's first deputy chairman Lukáš Vlček said on 17 October 2026, after arriving at the election headquarters, that the result demonstrated demand for the politics of mayors and that the number of seats exceeded the expectations with which they had entered the elections. Vlček said he was sorry about the defeat of Martin Dvořák, who lost in the Hradec Králové constituency to Zuzana Ceralová Petrofová (ODS).[1]
Vlček added that he would have very much liked to see Dvořák in the Senate, but that he fully respected the voters' decision.[1]
