Mladá Boleslav is a town that is home to a plant of Škoda Auto. It has a historic centre with the Old Town Square and the football club FK Mladá Boleslav, and extensive modernisation is under way at the site of the local heating plant.[1][2]

Old Town Square

The Old Town Square lies in the historic centre of the town. About fifteen years ago it was revitalised at a cost of 100 million crowns, replacing an asphalt surface with a large fountain, a stainless-steel water cascade imitating the course of the Jizera and sculptures made of Cor-ten steel. Beneath the square is an underground car park with a green roof and a park.[1]

In a poll of readers of Boleslavský deník, the result of which the paper published on 2 October 2026, the Old Town Square was chosen as the town's biggest problem with 60.9 percent of the votes. Parking problems in the northern part of the town came second with 30.4 percent. According to the paper, residents would welcome more trees and lawns, and some criticise the sculptures. Local entrepreneurs say that about two thirds of the shop operators on the square have closed in the past several years.[1]

Heating plant modernisation

At the site of the Mladá Boleslav heating plant of ŠKO-ENERGO, modernisation is under way during operation, creating large-capacity biomass silos and a new fluidised-bed boiler K20, while the existing technology is being upgraded. Conveyor bridges linking the silos with boiler K20 were installed in the summer of 2026. In October 2026 the last section is to follow, connecting the boiler with the building of the current heating plant. The whole project is to be completed in 2027. The carmaker expects that after completion carbon dioxide emissions will fall by roughly 274 thousand tonnes a year.[2]

Stork nest at the eMBe brewery

In mid-March 2026 a hand-woven stork nest was placed on the chimney at the eMBe pivovar brewery. It was occupied by a pair of white storks, which raised two young over the summer; in a public poll they were given the names Laurinka and Klement. For every bottle of the special beer sold, one crown went to the Český svaz ochránců přírody Klenice; the operator of an aparthotel promised to double the contribution, and the result is a voucher worth 5,000 crowns.[3]

Football

At the beginning of October 2026, FK Mladá Boleslav was third in the table of the top Czech league. The coach is Aleš Majer, and Martin Šubert led the league scorers' list with six goals.[4]
