Klinika Dr. Pírka in Mladá Boleslav opened a new five-storey pavilion in October 2026, expanding its rehabilitation and surgery capacity. The building is directly connected to the existing hospital building. The clinic is run by the Penta Hospitals group, which took it over from the founder's family in 2024 [1][2].

What the pavilion offers

The pavilion has an inpatient ward for orthopaedics and follow-up care beds, a monitored post-operative recovery area, a rehabilitation gym, staff facilities and an underground car park [1]. According to Boleslavský deník, it contains 40 beds for follow-up rehabilitation care and 20 beds for acute orthopaedic care, all with patient monitoring and oxygen supply. The recovery area has ten beds with central monitoring [2].

Day-case hand surgery gained two operating theatres and a separate entrance with its own reception [1][2]. The clinic also renovated changing rooms, showers, a meeting room and doctors' rooms, enlarged the kitchen and built a new entrance to the grounds [2].

Capacity and staff

Each year the clinic performs around 1,500 replacements of large joints and around 2,500 hand operations. Director Michal Bednář said the number of procedures could rise by thirty percent. Hand operations had so far been carried out in cramped premises, and in more complex procedures surgeons shared theatres with joint replacements, which lengthened waiting times. According to the director, the wait for complex procedures is sometimes up to two years [1].

Higher capacity also depends on staff. The clinic needs to hire about twenty new health professionals. According to the director, nurses are already being recruited, while anaesthesiologists and anaesthesia nurses are still missing [1].

Investment and plans

The Penta Hospitals group invested about CZK 200 million in the building and a further tens of millions in medical equipment [1][2]. Barbora Vaculíková, chief executive of Penta Hospitals, said that the group plans further development of outpatient care [1].

According to the clinic's management, patients are to have all stages of treatment, from preventive screening through diagnosis and surgery to rehabilitation, in one place [1][2].
