Miloš Vele is a Czech politician, a member of ODS, and the mayor of Jablonec nad Nisou, the second-largest city in the Liberec Region.[1]

Mayor since 2022

After the 2022 municipal elections, ODS formed a coalition with Starostové pro Liberecký kraj (SLK), the Společně pro Jablonec grouping, and the Czech Pirate Party, even though it had finished second in the election behind the ANO movement.[1] The coalition held a narrow majority of 16 out of 30 seats on the council and lasted the full four years, led by Miloš Vele.[1]

2026 elections and renewal of the coalition

In the municipal elections held in Jablonec nad Nisou in October 2026, the ANO movement won with 26.92 percent of the vote, retaining nine of its 30 seats.[1] Second place went to Starostové pro Liberecký kraj with seven seats, while ODS finished third with four councillors.[1] On 13 October 2026, representatives of SLK, ODS, Společně pro Jablonec, and the Czech Pirate Party signed a memorandum on continuing their joint administration for the 2026–2030 period.[1] Vele told reporters that the coalition had “done a great deal of work” in the previous term and that a four-year term was too short to complete its projects, which is why the renewed coalition wanted to continue its work.[1] According to iDNES.cz, Vele said he had negotiated with all the parties represented on the council, but that the existing cooperation made the most sense to him, adding that the coalition was now preparing a coalition agreement and policy statement.[3]

Composition of the city leadership

Under the agreement, Vele remains mayor, while Jana Hamplová (SLK) continues as deputy mayor for social affairs, Lenka Opočenská (Společně pro Jablonec) continues as deputy mayor for the environment and strategy, and Jakub Chuchlík (Czech Pirate Party) continues as deputy mayor for development and digitalization.[1][3] In the post of deputy mayor for property management, former mayor and later ODS member of parliament Petr Beitl will replace the outgoing deputy mayor, Petr Roubíček.[1] According to Novinky.cz, the new coalition, which holds a total of 17 seats following the 2026 elections, planned to present its coalition agreement and policy statement to the public by the end of October 2026.[2]
