Babiš government is the government of the Czech Republic headed by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš of the ANO movement. The coalition holds 108 of 200 seats in the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Among the members of the government is the minister for sport Boris Šťastný, nominated by the Motoristé.
The first attempt by the opposition to bring a vote of no confidence in the government took place in early February 2026. It was prompted by a dispute between the Motoristé and President Petr Pavel, who declined to appoint the Motoristé honorary chairman Filip Turek as minister of the environment.[1]
At the end of September 2026, ODS, Starostové, Czech Pirate Party, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 collected the signatures of all 92 of their deputies under a proposal to convene an extraordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic to vote on a no-confidence motion. They named as topics the next year's budget with the second-highest deficit in Czech history, the prime minister's unresolved conflict of interest, and the government's approach to constitutional institutions, courts, the non-profit sector and the media. At least 101 votes would be needed to remove the government. The session was convened for 29 September 2026.[1][2]
The chairman of ODS, Martin Kupka, described the government's steps as a change in the character of the country for the worse. In the debate the government was also criticised by former prime minister Petr Fiala (ODS), who pointed to rising mortgage interest rates, higher fuel prices and the planned increase of the state budget deficit from 310 to 386 billion crowns.[1][3] Minister Šťastný recalled during the proceedings the higher inflation and the fall in real wages under the government of Petr Fiala, and said that the government had intervened where it could influence prices.[3]
