Antonín Klecanda (STAN) is the councillor of the Capital City of Prague for education, sport and leisure.[1]
Sports projects of the city
On 29 September 2026 Klecanda told journalists that Prague is preparing further sports facilities, above all swimming pools, which it needs, among other things, for school swimming lessons. According to him, new pools are being prepared in Horní Počernice and Černý Most, and the city wants to extend the Šutka swimming complex in Prague 8.[1] He also said that a modernisation of the paddling canal in Troja is being prepared.[1] According to Klecanda, the canal is to offer new obstacles and other elements meeting current standards, the cycle path is also to be adjusted, and the property-law settlement and the project documentation could be ready within a year. [1] For major sports competitions, such as world or European championships, he proposes a separate grant programme, so that they do not draw on the same pot as smaller events.[1] For 2029 Prague is bidding for the start of the Tour de France and the European Figure Skating Championships, and for 2030 the men’s European Handball Championship is confirmed. [2] In the coming years Prague is to host the nohejbal world championship in 2026, the Mystic Sk8 Cup and the Global Champions Prague Playoffs in 2027, and the NHL World Cup of Hockey and the men’s floorball world championship in 2028. [2]
According to Klecanda, a stadium for university ice hockey is now planned in the Pelc-Tyrolka area in Prague 8, because, as he put it, the leadership of Prague 7 was against the originally chosen Štvanice.[1][2]
According to Klecanda, a study has been prepared for the stadium and work on the project is now to begin; how long it might take to complete is not yet clear. [1]
Prague is preparing the stadium together with Prague universities; it is to have room for about 5,000 spectators and, according to earlier estimates, cost hundreds of millions of crowns. [1]
A swimming pool is also to be built next to the stadium at Pelc-Tyrolka, and Prague wants to use waste heat from cooling the ice surface to heat it. [1]
