A stadium for university ice hockey, which was originally to stand on Štvanice, is according to a new proposal to be built in the Pelc-Tyrolka area in Prague 8. Prague councillor for education, sport and leisure Antonín Klecanda (STAN) said this to journalists on 29 September 2026. [1][2]

Choice of site

According to Klecanda, the leadership of Prague 7 opposed the Štvanice location, and the city therefore looked for another site. In his words, Pelc-Tyrolka is close to both Štvanice and the university dormitories and could therefore be ideal. [1][2] A study has been prepared for the stadium and work on the project is now to begin. The completion date is not yet known. [1][2]

Stadium and swimming pool

Prague is preparing the stadium with Prague universities. It is expected to hold about five thousand spectators, and earlier estimates put its cost in the hundreds of millions of Czech crowns. University clubs are to use it for at least half of the time, with the rest going, for example, to youth and women's hockey or para ice hockey. [1][2] A swimming pool is to be built next to it at Pelc-Tyrolka, which the city would heat with heat from cooling the ice surface. [1][2]

Other sports facilities and events

Klecanda said that Prague needs more swimming pools, among other things for school swimming. The city is preparing pools in Horní Počernice and Černý Most and plans an extension of the Šutka complex in Prague 8. It is also preparing the modernisation of the whitewater canal in Troja. [1][2] Klecanda proposes a special grant programme for major sporting competitions, for example world and European championships. [1][2] For 2029, Prague is bidding for a Tour de France start and for the European figure skating championships. [1][2]
