The third government of Andrej Babiš is the government of the Czech Republic formed by the ANO movement, SPD and Motoristé sobě. President Petr Pavel appointed it on 15 December 2025 at Prague Castle; the cabinet held its first meeting at the Straka Academy.[2] The Prime Minister is Andrej Babiš, appointed to the post for the third time.[1]*

Formation

ANO won the election to the Chamber of Deputies in October 2025. The President appointed Babiš Prime Minister on 9 December 2025, 66 days after the election.[1][7] He made the appointment conditional on Babiš publicly announcing how he would resolve the conflict of interest arising from his ownership of the Agrofert holding. Before the appointment Babiš announced that the holding's shares would be managed through a trust structure by an independent administrator overseen by an independent protector.[1]

Motoristé originally proposed their deputy Filip Turek as Minister of the Environment. Turek was missing from the list of nominees for health reasons, and the ministry was to be run temporarily by the Motoristé leader Petr Macinka.[1] The President had reservations about Turek's appointment.[1] The President later refused to appoint Turek as minister.[3]

Composition

According to the Office of the Government, in October 2026 the government consists of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš; First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Jaromír Zůna; Minister of the Interior Lubomír Metnar; Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Aleš Juchelka; Minister for Regional Development Zuzana Mrázová; Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch; Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Robert Plaga; Minister of Justice Jeroným Tejc; Minister of Transport Ivan Bednárik; Minister of Agriculture Martin Šebestyán; Minister of the Environment Igor Červený; Minister of Culture Oto Klempíř; and Minister for Sport, Prevention and Health Boris Šťastný.[4] Schillerová took over the Ministry of Finance from Zbyněk Stanjura and Plaga took over education from Mikuláš Bek.[2]

Confidence of the Chamber

The Chamber expressed confidence in the government on 15 January 2026. All 108 coalition deputies voted in favour and 91 deputies present from ODS, STAN, the Pirates, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 voted against. The debate lasted about 26 hours of net time and, according to ČTK, was the longest so far.[5] During it Babiš said the government would not adopt the euro and wanted to restore electronic registration of sales.[5]

The opposition has tried to bring down the government twice. The government survived the first no-confidence vote in early February 2026; it was prompted by the dispute between Motoristé and the President over Turek. In the second vote on 1 October 2026, 83 opposition deputies supported the motion and 94 coalition deputies voted against; at least 101 votes would have been needed to bring the government down.[3] The opposition justified the motion among other things by the size of the deficit in the draft budget, the Prime Minister's conflict of interest and the government's attacks on institutions.[3]

Selected decisions

On 15 June 2026 the government approved a bill under which Czech Television and Czech Radio would receive a contribution from the state budget instead of licence fees, a total of 7.8 billion korunas in 2027.[6]
