At Smíchov railway station in Prague, a newly built fourth platform and a reconstructed third platform opened on 20 October 2026. Platforms one and two were closed, and reconstruction work moved to them.[1][2]
Traffic restrictions
According to Prague Integrated Transport, some morning trains of line S7 terminate in Radotín from 20 to 27 October, and others are diverted to Kačerov. Replacement buses XS7 run between Radotín and Smíchov via Velká Chuchle. From 24 October to 29 November, the weekend Pražský motoráček will also be diverted; it will run from Praha Masarykovo nádraží via Dejvice, Veleslavín, Ruzyně, Hostivice and Hlubočepy to Smíchov and back.[1][2]
Modernisation of the station
The reconstruction of the station, costing 4.14 billion korunas excluding VAT, began in early 2024 and is to be completed at the end of 2028. Prague City Hall plans to build a platform for bus transport above the platforms, and Správa železnic is preparing the reconstruction of the station building.[1][2]
History
Smíchov station opened in 1862 as the second large station in Prague. The current building dates from the 1950s; the original buildings did not survive because of damage in the Second World War. The station is among the busiest railway hubs in Prague.[1][2]
