The town of Ostrov in the Karlovy Vary area is completing the modernisation of its municipal sauna. The total cost came to roughly 35 million crowns. The renovated sauna is due to open to the public at the start of October 2026.[1][2]
Course of the renovation
The sauna building was constructed in the 1970s. In autumn 2023 a warm-up room panelled in aspen wood was added, and in 2025 the roof was completely repaired and insulated; it is also prepared for the later installation of photovoltaic panels. In 2026 the work moved to the interior.[1][2]
The previous town leadership had considered building a new sauna centre with four types of saunas and an instantaneous capacity of 45 visitors, but its cost would have been several times higher than that of the reconstruction.[1][2]
What is on offer
After the renovation, five saunas will be available: Finnish, bio, aroma, an infrared cabin and a steam cabin. Visitors will also be able to use a Priessnitz walkway, a cooling room, crushed ice and an outdoor cooling pool. The instantaneous capacity will double to 40 people. The town has already chosen the operator. A single admission will cost 260 crowns for two hours; seniors will pay 125 crowns.[1][2]
