The investor in a Penny Market store in Telč, in the Vysočina Region, has obtained a final building permit. According to Pavol Buck, head of construction and expansion at Penny, the company is now completing the preparatory steps before work begins. Construction is to start no later than during the first quarter of 2027.[1][2]

Location and design of the store

The store is to stand on the site of former coal depots, at the junction of Jihlavská and Beringova streets.[1] The low timber building will have a sales area of 740 square metres, whereas the chain's standard stores usually have about 900 square metres.[1][2] For reasons of structural stability and floor load-bearing capacity, the timber structure will be partly supplemented with brick. The building is to combine timber and anthracite-coloured finishes, because attention is paid to the look of buildings in Telč, whose historic core is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The timber is to come from the Vysočina region, specifically from Ždírec nad Doubravou.[1][2]

The project includes chargers for electric cars and preparation of space for photovoltaics.[1] According to the company's expansion manager Štěpán Špaček, the car park is to be on the adjacent plot.[2]

The town's position

The mayor of Telč, Vladimír Brtník (ODS), said he was glad the store would be built in this very location. The town hall communicated with Penny Market and offered its cooperation.[2] Deputy mayor Jiří Pykal said that the town welcomes features such as charging stations and photovoltaics also in projects by private investors.[1]
