Starostové pro Liberecký kraj, Lepší Liberec and the grouping Liberec otevřený lidem with the Czech Pirate Party have agreed on the city leadership; Lukáš Hájek is to become mayor, and the council is to include eight full-time deputy mayors.

Liberec will have an eleven-member city council in the new term. The leader of the winning Starostové pro Liberecký kraj (SLK), Lukáš Hájek, is to become mayor if the city assembly approves the agreement. Hájek announced the composition of the leadership on 2 November 2026.[1][3]

Coalition

Four of the 11 candidate lists entered the city assembly. SLK, Lepší Liberec and the grouping Liberec otevřený lidem (LOL) with the Czech Pirate Party will form the coalition, which will hold a majority of 31 votes in the 39-member assembly. ANO, with eight seats, which led the city for three terms, will go into opposition.[1][2]

City council

Besides the mayor, the council will include eight full-time deputy mayors and two part-time councillors. Five seats went to SLK, four to Lepší Liberec and two to the LOL and Czech Pirate Party coalition. Eight full-time deputy mayors is a record number; in the past the city managed with four to six paid deputies. According to Hájek, the total number of deputy mayors has not changed since the start of the previous term, but at that time two of them were part-time.[1][3]

For SLK, the current mayor Jaroslav Zámečník is to remain on the council with the economy portfolio, and Jiří Janďourek with architecture and urban planning. David Václavík is to hold education, culture and tourism. Tereza Pokorná is to become a new part-time council member.[3]

Lepší Liberec will hold four seats. Its leader Martina Teplá is to be statutory deputy mayor, keep the social portfolio and newly take over housing. Jiří Mejsnar is to hold technical administration and energy, Lukáš Lehký strategic development and subsidies. Lukáš Pohanka is to be a part-time councillor.[3]

The LOL and Czech Pirate Party coalition will receive two seats. Zuzana Kocumová is to take over sport and property administration, and according to the grouping's leader Jan Hruška her first task will be the reopening of the reconstructed swimming pool. Hruška will be responsible for the environment and public transport.[3]
