České dráhy is a railway operator that runs, among other services, suburban lines around Prague served by CityElefant and RegioPanter units. It operates for the Central Bohemian Region under a contract from 2019 [1][2].
Suburban train capacity in October 2026
On the morning of 5 October 2026, 23 CityElefant units and five RegioPanter sets were missing on the suburban lines around Prague. Instead of two coupled sets, single units ran on key lines. České dráhy named as reasons technical faults, planned shutdowns for the installation of the European Train Control System ETCS, vandalism, collisions with wildlife and other extraordinary events [1][2].
The Central Bohemian Region opened crisis talks with České dráhy. The regional councillor for public transport, Petr Borecký (STAN), said that the region was ready to apply the sanctions that the 2019 contract allows it [1][2].
