In 2026 the Ministry of Transport is headed by Minister Ivan Bednárik (SPD).[1][2]

Completion of the D35 motorway

The ministry launched a tender for the completion of a 35.4-kilometre section of the D35 motorway between Opatovec and Mohelnice, which is to be built as a public-private partnership (PPP). Under this model, a private investor finances and builds the road, operates it for an agreed period, and is paid by the state. Three groups of companies submitted bids for the tender, with final projects presented in July 2026.[1][2]

On 6 October 2026 the ministry announced that it had selected the ViaAlliance35 consortium, made up of Cintra Global, Strabag Motorway, Budimex and Invesis. The net present value of the proposed availability payments amounts to 71.3 billion koruna. The competing bids had a net present value of 76.16 billion koruna (LitMo) and 85.98 billion koruna (ViaCM).[1][2]

Following the selection, the statutory period for objections from other participants is now running. Before signature, the concession agreement must be approved by the Government of the Czech Republic and the Chamber of Deputies. Bednárik said the first construction machinery could move onto the site as early as this year, with the aim of starting construction no later than around the turn of the year.[1][2] The contract includes the Dětřichov tunnel (almost four kilometres) and the Maletín tunnel (about 1.3 kilometres). The concessionaire is also to take over operation and maintenance of the 17-kilometre stretch of the motorway between Litomyšl and Opatovec. The state will pay the availability payments only once all the new sections are opened to traffic, and deductions will apply if contractual requirements are not met.[2]
