ProVeg Česko is an organization that in October 2026 spoke out publicly against the draft of the so-called meat decree of the Ministry of Agriculture. The draft, which is in the comment procedure, envisages that names such as párek (frankfurter), klobása (sausage) or salám (salami) may be used only by a meat product made from meat or offal and formed into a characteristic shape.[1][2]

According to the organization, the government is trying to harm plant-based foods, and the decree would ban names such as soy frankfurter, lentil meatloaf or vegetarian salami. The organization's representative Jana Pavelková said the changes would make it harder for customers to find their way and asked the ministry to reconsider the draft. ProVeg also pointed out that producers of plant-based alternatives would face renaming costs and fines, which under the Food Act can reach 50 million crowns.[1][2] The Ministry of Agriculture said the decree does not ban any designations but defines the conditions for their use more clearly.[1][2] The date the amendment takes effect will depend on the length of its notification with the European Commission.[1]
