Million Moments for Democracy (Milion chvilek pro demokracii) is a Czech association based in Prague that organises demonstrations, petitions and campaigns on public affairs. According to the association, its purpose is to support and cultivate democratic culture, civic engagement and public debate.[3] It was founded after the 2017 general election, which was won by Andrej Babiš's ANO movement.[1][3]*

Founding and leadership

Its founders include Mikuláš Minář and Benjamin Roll.[1] Minář led the association until autumn 2020, when he resigned and left; he was succeeded by Roll. Minář then founded the political movement Lidé PRO, which announced the end of its activities in March 2021.[1] In November 2025 the association elected Minář as its chairman again, replacing Lukáš Hilpert.[1]

Demonstrations

The association organised demonstrations criticising Andrej Babiš, among other things over his conflict of interest.[1] The largest of them took place in June 2019 on Prague's Letná Plain; according to the organisers, up to 250,000 people attended.[1] On 16 November 2019 the association held another rally on Letná, attended according to the organisers by 250,000 to 300,000 people. The mobile operator T-Mobile estimated attendance at about 257,000.[4] On 21 March 2026 the association held a rally on Letná entitled “Nenecháme si ukrást budoucnost” (We will not let our future be stolen), directed against the steps of Andrej Babiš's government. Citing aerial images, the organisers reported at least 250,000 participants; the police did not confirm the estimate, as they do not publish attendance figures for such events.[5]

On 28 September 2026 the association held a demonstration on Old Town Square entitled “Václave, svobodu udržíme!” (Václav, we will keep freedom). It called for turnout in the municipal elections and the first round of the Senate elections on 9 and 10 October 2026 and marked the 90th anniversary of Václav Havel's birth.[2] Speakers criticised Andrej Babiš's government, among other things over the conflict of interest and the planned abolition of licence fees for Czech Television and Czech Radio. The organisers did not publish an estimate of attendance.[2]
