Radek Vondráček is a Czech member of parliament and deputy chairman of the ANO movement.[1]
On 18 October 2026 he appeared on the programme Partie Terezie Tománkové on the television channel Prima. He said he wants to negotiate a change to Senate elections so that they are held in a single round. He identified low turnout in the second round as a problem, because of which, in his view, the Senate loses its representativeness.[1] He also said that in the second round a few hundred votes are sometimes enough to win a seat.[1]
In the second round of the 2026 Senate elections the ANO movement won no seat, although 13 of its candidates had advanced to it.[1] Vondráček called the result a "wake-up call" and said the movement would assess it at its executive committee.[2] He also said the elections had not changed the balance of power in the Senate and had not endangered the governing coalition.[2] The proposal for single-round elections was rejected by STAN deputy chairman Karel Dvořák, according to whom the two-round system gives the elected candidate broader support.[1]
