The D5 motorway is a motorway in Czechia running from Prague towards Rozvadov.[1][2]

Route

In the Rokycany area of the Plzeň Region, the motorway has exits 50 Mýto and 41 Cerhovice.[2]

Closure in September 2026

On 29 September 2026, two lorries collided at kilometre 50 of the motorway near the village of Mýto.[1] The police first closed the carriageway towards Prague and then, for safety reasons, the opposite one towards Rozvadov as well.[1][2] According to the traffic information service of the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic, the restriction applied to the stretch between exits 50 Mýto and 41 Cerhovice, and queues formed in the direction of Prague.[2] Traffic from Prague towards Rozvadov was restored at about 15:45, and the police announced full restoration shortly before 10 p.m. the same day.[2]

Repairs between Líně and Nýřany (October 2026)

The Directorate is repairing the D5 between kilometres 88 and 94, from Líně u Plzně to Nýřany. Since mid-September 2026, the left half of the seven-kilometre stretch has been closed in the direction of Plzeň, and traffic runs on the right half, with one lane for Plzeň and two for Rozvadov. The first phase of the work is to last until the end of November, the second from spring to summer. The cost is 668 million crowns excluding VAT, said Directorate spokesman Adam Koloušek.[3][4]

The section from Plzeň to Rozvadov was completed in 1997. According to the Directorate, some of its parts are at the end of their service life, show extensive damage and could no longer be repaired locally. The administrator is rebuilding the whole 62-kilometre route from Plzeň to Rozvadov step by step: according to Eduard Binko of the Directorate, more than 60 percent of the sections have been repaired in seven years, and the five remaining ones are to follow by about 2028.[3][4]

The stretch between kilometres 88 and 94 will receive a new 28-centimetre cement-concrete surface on both sides, the crash barriers will be replaced, and selected rest areas will be converted into police checkpoints. The Directorate says the life of the pavement will be extended by at least 30 years after the repair, with a ten-year warranty. A mobile concrete plant producing 130 cubic metres of concrete per hour was set up near Nýřany for the work. Construction began with the carriageway towards Plzeň, which was in worse condition.[3][4]

The Directorate is also repairing one side of the D5 from Ostrov u Stříbra to Přehýšov in the direction of Plzeň; the work, costing 580 million crowns, is to be finished by the end of October 2026, and the central barriers will be replaced there in November.[3][4]
