Nýřany is a town of seven thousand people in the Plzeň Region. It lies on the international railway line from Plzeň through Domažlice to Germany.[1]
Modernisation of the line
In early June 2026 Správa železnic began in Nýřany the first stage of the modernisation of the line from Plzeň to Germany, worth 4.49 billion koruna.[1] It is a rebuild of a twelve-kilometre single-track line between Plzeň, Nýřany and Chotěšov, on which diesel-powered trains run. The line is to be electrified, the Vejprnice station, the Tlučná stop and the Nýřany station are to be rebuilt, and completion is planned for April 2028.[1] In Nýřany, new platforms with lifts will be built, along with a technology building replacing part of the existing station building.[2]
New station building
Správa železnic has announced a public tender for a contractor for the new station building; the maximum permitted bid is just under 58.2 million koruna. According to Správa železnic spokesman David Kabele, construction is to start in the first quarter of 2027 and end at the end of 2028.[1]
The building is to stand closer to the bus station. It will offer passengers a waiting room, ticket offices, toilets and a retail unit, and the whole building and its surroundings are to be barrier-free.[1][2] A photovoltaic power plant on the roof and a heat pump are meant to cut running costs. The station forecourt with a new car park will also be redone.[2]
