The Czech Statistical Office is the central state administration body of the Czech Republic that provides the state statistical service and produces statistical information on the country's economic, social, demographic and environmental development.

The Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) is a state administration body of the Czech Republic whose activity is regulated by Act No. 89/1995 Coll., on the State Statistical Service [2]. The Office produces statistical information on the social, economic, demographic and ecological development of the Czech Republic and its individual parts [2].
Mission and activities
By its own definition, the basic mission of the Office is to create an objective and comprehensive picture of the economic, social, demographic and environmental development of the Czech Republic and its individual parts [1]. It provides statistical data for the state and public administration, local self-government, the business sector, international institutions and research organisations [1]. To this end it develops and applies statistical methods and tools for monitoring social phenomena and processes, including their mutual relations [1]. The Office is also tasked with ensuring that statistical data are comparable in substance, methodology and timing at the national and international level [1]. This work includes fulfilling obligations arising from international treaties on statistics by which the Czech Republic is bound [2].
Position within the state statistical service
Within the Czech Republic, the Office coordinates the performance of the state statistical service and, where necessary, issues methodological guidelines for the bodies that carry it out [1]. Under Section 3 of Act No. 89/1995 Coll., the bodies of the state statistical service are the Czech Statistical Office and, under the conditions and to the extent laid down by the act, ministries and other central state administration bodies [2]. The competence of the Office and of the other bodies of the state statistical service is defined by Sections 4 and 7 of the same act respectively [2]. The Office thus acts as the coordinator of the whole state statistical service of the Czech Republic [2].
Data protection and sources of information
The Office ensures the confidentiality of individual data that it has obtained in its own statistical surveys, in surveys conducted by other bodies or units of the state statistical service, and from administrative and other data sources [1]. The statistical data collected are used exclusively for statistical purposes [1].
Elections and referendum
The Office performs state administration in the area of processing the results of elections to the representative bodies of territorial self-governing units and to the Parliament of the Czech Republic [1]. It also processes the results of elections to the European Parliament held in the Czech Republic, of the presidential election and of a nationwide referendum, to the extent set by special legal regulations [1].
