The Czech Statistical Office published demographic data for 2025 in October 2026. In 2025, 77,600 children were born in Czechia, the fewest since records began in 1785. Of them, 7,249 held foreign citizenship, roughly one in eleven. In 2016 there were 3,709, which corresponded to roughly one in thirty.[1]

The share of children with foreign citizenship rose from 3.3 to 9.3 percent between 2016 and 2025. In Prague it amounted to 23 percent of births, ten years earlier 11 percent. The share rose in all regions; it was lowest in the Moravian-Silesian Region, at 3.2 percent.[1]

Ukrainian citizenship was held by 4,211 of the children born, about three fifths of them, Slovak by 804 and Vietnamese by 636. Until 2021, children with Ukrainian citizenship made up around a quarter of foreign births; since 2022 their share has stayed at about 58 percent.[1]

Children with a family link abroad made up almost 13 percent of births in 2025. About 10,000 children had a mother from abroad, and about 9,600 a father from abroad. Among foreign women who gave birth, Slovak women were the most numerous until 2021; since 2022 Ukrainian women are. Vietnamese mothers were in third place and Russian in fourth; among fathers, Slovaks and Ukrainians were followed by Vietnamese and Romanians.[1]

At the end of 2025 the Ministry of the Interior recorded 1.13 million foreigners, about a tenth of the population. At the end of 2016 there were 496,400, which represented four percent.[1]
