The Czech Statistical Office published data on industry, construction and foreign trade for August 2026 on 7 October 2026 [1].

Industry

Year-on-year growth in industrial output slowed to 2.6 percent from 3.1 percent in July. Month on month, output rose by 0.3 percent. Most sectors grew year on year; according to Radek Matějka, director of the Czech Statistical Office's department of agriculture, forestry, industry, construction and energy statistics, the largest growth was in the manufacture of other transport equipment, where long-term orders for rail vehicles were being completed [2][3].

The value of new orders was 5.9 percent higher year on year, with foreign orders up 9.3 percent and domestic orders down 0.5 percent. Compared with July, the value of new orders was 6.8 percent lower. The number of employees in industry fell by one percent year on year [3].

Construction

Construction output fell 1.4 percent year on year after growth of 1.8 percent in July; compared with July it was lower by a tenth of a percent. Building construction rose by 5.9 percent, while civil engineering fell by 12.3 percent because of a high comparison base from last August [1][2].

Authorities issued 5,684 building permits, 1.4 percent more than a year earlier. The number of housing starts rose 42.3 percent year on year to 3,922, while the number of completed dwellings fell by three percent to 2,852 [2].

Foreign trade

The foreign trade deficit in August was 5.3 billion koruna, a result 5.6 billion koruna worse than a year earlier [1].
