Retail sales in Czechia excluding motor vehicles rose by 4.3 per cent year on year in August 2026, slightly more slowly than in July.

The Czech Statistical Office published retail data for August 2026 on 8 October 2026. Sales excluding the sale and repair of motor vehicles rose by 4.3 per cent year on year, compared with 5.1 per cent in July according to the revised figure. Between July and August they increased by 0.2 per cent [1][2].
Sales of non-food goods rose by 7.4 per cent year on year, and sales of food by 3 per cent. Sales of motor fuels fell by 3.2 per cent. According to the office, the largest contribution to growth came from internet and mail-order shops, with sales up 15 per cent, and non-specialised stores with a predominance of food, up 3.1 per cent. Among non-food shops, the largest contribution came from clothing and footwear shops, whose sales rose by a tenth [1][2]. Jana Gotvaldová, head of the trade, transport and services statistics unit of the Czech Statistical Office, said that the office had traditionally recorded the highest growth among internet sellers [1].
Sales from the sale and repair of motor vehicles fell by 2.2 per cent year on year, of which repairs by 2.5 per cent and sales including spare parts by 2.1 per cent. Compared with July they fell by 0.3 per cent [1][2].
Tereza Krček, an analyst at Raiffeisenbank, described rising real household incomes and the consumption linked to them as the support for growth [2].
