Consumer prices in Czechia rose by 2.5 per cent year on year in September 2026, after 1.9 per cent in August. Month on month they were unchanged. This follows from the preliminary estimate published by the Czech Statistical Office on 6 October 2026. The office will announce the final figure on 13 October; according to the Czech News Agency, it has so far always confirmed the preliminary estimate.[1]

Developments in 2026

The September figure matches the highest inflation of 2026, which was also reached in April. The lowest was in February, at 1.4 per cent. Inflation has been accelerating since June, when it stood at 1.5 per cent.[1][2]

Price components

Energy prices, including fuel, rose fastest year on year, by 5.9 per cent after 2.3 per cent in August. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and services became more expensive by the same 4.6 per cent. Food and non-alcoholic beverages became cheaper by 3.5 per cent after a fall of 4.3 per cent in August.[1][2]

Analysts' assessment

Analysts approached by the Czech News Agency attribute the acceleration mainly to more expensive fuel and the fading effect of cheaper food. Miroslav Novák, chief analyst at Citfin, expects the year-on-year fall in food prices to ease gradually. According to the Czech News Agency, analysts consider it more likely that the board of the Czech National Bank will raise interest rates at its November meeting.[1][2]
