Správa železnic has announced a public tender for a contractor to build the new station building in Nýřany in the Plzeň Region. The maximum permitted bid price is just under CZK 58.2 million.[1][2] According to Správa železnic spokesman David Kabele, construction is to begin in the first quarter of 2027 and be completed by the end of 2028.[1][2]

Design of the building

The new building is to stand closer to the bus station. It will offer passengers a waiting room, ticket offices, toilets and a commercial unit, and the building and its surroundings are to be barrier-free.[1][2] Photovoltaic panels on the roof and a heat pump are meant to reduce running costs. The station forecourt will also be redone, with a car park created there.[1][2]

Construction is to run in parallel with the modernisation of the line between Plzeň and Chotěšov. In Nýřany this will bring new platforms with lifts and a new building to which the technology from the current building will be moved.[1][2]

Context

In early June 2026, Správa železnic began in Nýřany the first stage of modernising the line from Plzeň towards the German border, at a cost of CZK 4.49 billion. It involves rebuilding a twelve-kilometre single-track line between Plzeň, Nýřany and Chotěšov, which will be electrified; the Vejprnice station, the Tlučná stop and the Nýřany station will also be reconstructed. Completion is planned for April 2028.[1][2]

Nýřany mayor Pavlína Caisová said at the start of the modernisation that she regretted the removal of a new station building from the project. The Director General of Správa železnic, Tomáš Tóth, then promised that the organisation would save money on it in later tenders.[1]

Nýřany station was built in October 1861 as part of the railway linking Bavaria with Plzeň and Prague-Smíchov. In 1924–1925 the interior was reconstructed and a floor was added; between 1968 and 1971 a new glazed passenger pavilion was built.[1][2]
