According to Správa železnic, the new Brno hlavní nádraží is planned in a relocated position as the main element of a comprehensive rebuilding of the Brno railway junction. According to the latest estimates, the cost of the rebuilding exceeds 70 billion crowns.[1][2] The redesigned junction is meant to substantially increase the capacity of the station and the tracks and to connect Brno to the planned high-speed rail lines.[1][2]

Preparation of the construction

In October 2026, Správa železnic launched a tender for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) documentation and the project documentation needed for the building permit for the new Brno hlavní nádraží and the Heršpice station. The maximum permitted price is 711 million crowns, and companies may submit bids until 9 December 2026.[1][2] The administration originally intended to launch the tender in autumn 2025 and later in June 2026. It explains the delay by the uncertain budget of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure, which the new government only submitted at the end of January.[1][2]

On its website, Správa železnic lists the start of construction of the new Brno hlavní nádraží as after 2032, without filling in a completion date. For another project related to the rebuilding of the junction, the start is listed as 2032 and completion as 2041 — six years later than originally expected. Earlier, the start of the junction's rebuilding had been discussed for 2028.[1][2]

Earlier, the administration launched a design tender for the rebuilding of the line and stop in Černovice. Its spokesman David Kabele announced in May 2026 that the tender for the station and line in Židenice would follow in autumn, but it has not yet been launched.[1][2] Independently of the relocation, a construction boom of office buildings, residential buildings and shops is taking place between the current and the new Brno hlavní nádraží.[1][2]
