SEN 21 is a senators' club in the Senate of the Czech Republic that brings together senators of the SEN 21 movement and independents.[1]

Formation and dissolution of earlier clubs

The club of the movement's chairman Václav Láska was formed in the Senate of the Czech Republic in 2018 under the name Club for Liberal Democracy – Senator 21 (Klub pro liberální demokracii – Senátor 21). Two years later, after the Czech Pirate Party entered the Senate of the Czech Republic, it was renamed SEN 21 and the Czech Pirate Party (SEN 21 a Piráti). That club dissolved on 10 October 2026 for lack of members; Adéla Sucharda Šípová, the candidate nominated by the Czech Pirate Party, did not win back her seat in the Kladno area in the second round of the elections to a third of the Senate of the Czech Republic.[1]

Re-establishment of the club in October 2026

On Wednesday 21 October 2026, senators established the club SEN 21 and Independents (SEN 21 a nezávislí). Láska announced its formation and composition on social media. The club is to consist of Láska, Přemysl Rabas, Martin Krsek, Hana Kordová Marvanová, who moved over from the ODS and TOP 09 club, and Petr Kazík, the newly elected senator for the Karviná area from the Osobnosti pro kraj movement. With five members the club thus reached the minimum number required for its existence and is the smallest group in the Senate of the Czech Republic.[1]

After the October elections Kazík was the only newly elected senator who remained outside the senators' clubs. His election was publicly supported by STAN and the Czech Pirate Party. In the Prague elections Kordová Marvanová supported Láska's re-election. The chairman of the ODS and TOP 09 senators, Zdeněk Nytra, said that she had not informed him of her intention to leave the club, although she had attended a meeting of his group on Tuesday.[1]

Balance of power in the Senate

After Kordová Marvanová's departure, the joint ODS and TOP 09 club has 30 members and remains the largest group in the 81-seat upper chamber. The STAN club has 18 members, the KDU-ČSL club 13 and the ANO club 14. It was unclear whether both senators of the Naše Česko movement would remain in the ODS and TOP 09 club.[1]
