The chair of the STAN parliamentary club, Michaela Šebelová, filed a proposal with the mandate and immunity committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic to open disciplinary proceedings against deputy Miroslav Ševčík (for SPD). A spokesperson for Starostové a nezávislí confirmed the filing of Monday 26 October 2026 to the Czech News Agency. The reason is a remark made at a session of the Chamber on Wednesday 21 October 2026.[1][2]

The proposal

Šebelová proposes that, should the committee find a disciplinary offence, it impose on Ševčík a public apology delivered orally at a session of the Chamber within a time limit set by the committee. In her proposal she described the remark as personally insulting and unrelated to the matter under discussion. She said she is not seeking to restrict deputies' freedom of speech but to preserve rules of mutual respect in parliamentary proceedings.[1][2]

Course of the session

In the Chamber, a dispute arose before midnight on 21 October over whether the opposition had correctly requested consecutive breaks. Šebelová added another pause and a remark “menopause” was heard from the floor. STAN chairman Vít Rakušan said that Ševčík shouted at Šebelová rudely at the end of the session, and that when an apology was requested, shouting and insults followed. The Speaker of the Chamber, Tomio Okamura (SPD), said the situation had gone differently and that he had urged everyone not to use inappropriate expressions. Ševčík said the word shouted out was not meant for Šebelová.[1][2]
