The building authority issued a zoning decision on 30 September 2026 for the first stage of the southwest bypass of Přerov in the Olomouc Region [1][2]. The investor behind the project is to be the Olomouc Region [1]. If the project obtains the other necessary permits in time, construction could start in 2028 or 2029 [2].
Scope and Costs of the First Stage
Construction of the new road is expected to take two to three years, with estimated costs ranging between CZK 600 million and CZK 700 million [1]. The first stage includes the reconstruction of Tovární Street, the construction of two new roundabouts on road I/55, connections to industrial areas, the demolition of old garages and construction of replacement ones, and adjustments to technical infrastructure [1][2]. Following an agreement between the region and the city, it also includes the widening of the Mádrův underpass beneath the railway line [1][2]. The original version of the project did not include widening the underpass; Přerov's city leadership criticized this, citing the inadequate traffic connection for the Správa železnic fire service and the expected heavy load on Tovačovská Street after completion of the D1 motorway [1][2].
Next Steps
Once the zoning decision becomes legally binding, preparation of the design and documentation for the building permit is to begin [1][2]. Vladimír Lichnovský (ANO), deputy governor of the Olomouc Region and deputy mayor of Přerov, said: „I believe we could have it ready by the end of 2027“ [1][2]. After the building permit is issued, the region is expected to launch a tender for the company that will build the bypass [1][2]. Lichnovský stated: „The optimistic scenario assumes we will start construction in 2028 or 2029“ [1][2]. According to him, this is to be the largest investment by the Olomouc Region in transport infrastructure [1].
History of the Project
Authorities have been preparing the southwest bypass of Přerov since 2017 [1][2]. At that time, the cost of the original scope of the project was estimated at CZK 820 million [1]. In 2023, the project was split into two stages because of costs, with the cost of the first stage then estimated at roughly half a billion crowns [1]. According to sources, the prices of construction work and materials have risen significantly since then [1]. Olomouc governor Ladislav Okleštěk said that the amount budgeted in 2017 at half a billion crowns would increase by roughly 20 percent, and that the costs would be borne mainly by the region, although they would try to draw on European and state funds [2].
