Polling stations for the local elections and the first round of the Senate elections closed at 2 p.m. on 10 October 2026. Voters cast ballots over two days, on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October. Election commissions and the Czech Statistical Office then began counting the votes.[1][2]

In the local elections, about 190,000 candidates stood for seats on the councils of roughly 6,250 municipalities. The Czech Republic has about 62,000 councillors, so on average about every third candidate was elected. In five municipalities not enough candidates registered or remained on the ballot, so supplementary elections are to be held there in January next year, and until then the municipalities are to be run by administrators appointed by the Ministry of the Interior.[1]

For a third of the Senate, 154 candidates stood in 27 electoral districts. In districts where none of them wins more than half of the votes, the second round was to be held a week later, on 16 and 17 October.[1]

According to Pražská Drbna, turnout in the local elections on Friday was most often between 20 and 30 percent, similar to four years earlier; in some smaller municipalities, half of eligible voters cast ballots. According to the data available then, turnout in the Senate elections was somewhat lower. In the local elections, the ANO movement was defending first place by number of votes, while KDU-ČSL won the most municipal mandates among political parties. In the Senate elections, STAN was defending victories in 11 of the 27 districts. Complete results of the local elections were expected only on Sunday morning.[2]
