Comments on the president’s absence from the elections

In October 2026, Juchelka commented on the fact that President Petr Pavel will not take part in the municipal elections because of a private trip abroad. In the Sunday debate on Czech Television he said that the president may decide for himself whether to go on holiday at the time of the elections.[1][3] According to Ekonomický deník, he added that with this decision the president sends a “bad signal”.[2]

Juchelka said: “The president does not want to go to the municipal elections, he has swapped it for a holiday, it is his sacred right.”[2][3]

In the television debate he agreed with his predecessor as head of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Marian Jurečka (KDU-ČSL), that if people are to take an interest in public affairs and go to vote, politicians should set them an example.[1][2][3]
