Radim Fiala is a Czech member of parliament, deputy chairman of the SPD movement and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. According to FORUM 24, the movement is part of the governing coalition.[1][2]

Speech in the Chamber of Deputies

On 30 September 2026 he spoke at an extraordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies on a vote of no confidence in the government of Andrej Babiš, called by the opposition. He defended the government and said that in Brussels it is trying to push through the abolition or postponement of the ETS1 emission allowances. He called the Green Deal a self-destructive mechanism and said that it cannot simply be abolished because, in his view, European law takes precedence over the law of the member states.[2][3]

FORUM 24 adds that before the parliamentary elections the SPD had advocated a complete abolition of the Green Deal, whereas the government's programme statement speaks of its fundamental revision.[2]

Meeting in České Budějovice

At a meeting of SPD representatives and supporters in České Budějovice, reported by Parlamentní listy on 2 October 2026, Fiala, according to the report, spoke about food prices. He said that before the Senate elections the SPD had promised to lower them and that, in his words, the prices of butter and some other foods had fallen. At the same time he said that the rise in fossil fuel prices linked to developments in the Strait of Hormuz would also be reflected in food prices and that no government can do anything about it. According to the report, he also spoke about the expansion of nuclear power plants and the nationalisation of ČEZ Group.[1]
