Zdeněk Šarapatka is a commentator. In October 2026 he ran for the Senate in the district of Prague 5 for TOP 09.[1][2] In an interview for FORUM 24 of 9 October 2026 he said that he wants to defend public-service media.[3] He is a member of the Council of Czech Television. [3]
On 10 October 2026 he said that TOP 09 had negotiated with ODS about a joint candidacy in Prague, but ODS pushed through its own candidate, Sáblík.[1] Šarapatka added that Sáblík lives in Mníšek pod Brdy and is not a Praguer. [1] The other candidates were the sitting senator Václav Láska for the SEN 21 movement and Radko Sáblík, who besides ODS was backed by KDU-ČSL and STAN. [3] Parlamentní listy described his candidacy in a piece of 11 October 2026 as TOP 09's third unsuccessful attempt at the Senate.[2]
The district is number 21 and covers Prague 5 and Prague 13; besides TOP 09, Šarapatka was supported by the Czech Pirate Party and the Liberálně ekologická strana. [3]
According to Šarapatka, there is no danger in Prague that a split of votes among three candidates would help the extreme parties, because long-term forecasts in the capital do not favour them. [1]
