Amendment on teaching assistants
On 5 October 2026 the government suspended discussion of Plaga's amendment to the Education Act concerning teaching assistants. It is to return to the proposal after a meeting of the coalition, announced for the following Monday. According to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, the proposal was postponed because of the position of the Motorists and the SPD ministers.[1][3] Under the amendment, assistants would be funded according to the number of pupils and the needs of the school rather than according to a recommendation for an individual pupil, and their deployment in classes would be decided by the head teacher. The changes are to apply from September 2027.[2] Plaga said he is disappointed by the approach of the coalition partners and recalled that a revision of inclusion is part of the government's policy statement.[1]
Universities and inclusion
According to Hospodářské noviny, the Ministry of Education is finishing a substantive draft of the Higher Education Act. Plaga said the draft has been discussed and has the support of the academic community, but universities have reservations, especially about a new university council that would take part in running the institution and in choosing the rector.[4] According to Deník.cz of 25 September 2026, Plaga said that inclusion is not to blame for pupils' worsening results.[5]
