On 7 October 2026, a new Park & Ride (P+R) parking garage was officially opened at Opatov in Prague 11. It stands on the eastern side of Chilská Street between the D1 motorway and Opatov metro station and offers 495 parking spaces. Representatives of Prague City Hall, Prague 11 and Technická správa komunikací (TSK), which operates Prague's system of park-and-ride car parks, attended the opening.[1]
Construction
Construction began at the end of June 2025. For the capital city it was carried out by a consortium of the firms BAK stavební společnost, Metrostav DIZ and Geosan Group. The construction cost CZK 663.8 million excluding VAT.[1][2][3]
Capacity and operation
The garage is intended mainly for drivers who arrive in Prague along the D1 and continue by metro. Stops for city and regional buses are also within a short walking distance.[1] Of the total capacity, 10 spaces are for people with disabilities and 43 for vehicles running on CNG or LPG, both on level P3, and there is room for 32 bicycles. Level P5 has spaces for electric cars with charging stations.[1]
Parking is paid for in 24-hour units, as at the other park-and-ride car parks managed by TSK; the price is CZK 50 per 24 hours. This also allows local residents to use the garage at night.[2][3] One hundred spaces can be rented at a reduced price by residents of Prague 11. According to the mayor of Prague 11, Martin Sedeke (ODS), more than 50 of them have been taken so far; applications have been accepted since the beginning of September.[1][2] Sedeke said of the garage: “We need this parking garage like salt.”[1]
First Deputy Mayor of Prague for Transport Jaromír Beránek (Czech Pirate Party) said that nearly five hundred spaces and a direct link to the metro and buses give drivers the chance to switch to public transport rather than sit in traffic jams.[1][2]
Further works and further P+R garages
The first stage, that is, the parking garage itself, has been completed. The second stage is to include a park on the roof of the building, which is also meant to serve the neighbouring retirement home, as well as pavements around the building and the planting of greenery.[1][2]
According to Pražský deník, Prague is building another P+R garage at Zličín metro station with a capacity of about 600 cars including an outdoor area, at a price of CZK 619 million excluding VAT. It is planning another at Depo Hostivař metro station with 647 spaces, for the construction of which it has announced a tender with an estimated value of CZK 601 million excluding VAT.[2]
