Miroslava Němcová is a senator for ODS and a former speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.[1] She comes from Žďár nad Sázavou, where she founded a bookshop after the Velvet Revolution. [5]

She is not defending her seat in the Senate elections in 2026 and is leaving after 28 years in top-level politics, Seznam Zprávy report.[2] In an interview for FORUM 24 in September, Němcová said: "The ANO movement came into being as a service organisation intended to enable Babiš to seize power in Czechia." [6] After the police raid on the Úřad vlády České republiky, Nečas resigned and the coalition proposed Němcová for the post of prime minister, but President Miloš Zeman instead tasked Jiří Rusnok with forming the government. [6] According to an interview for PrahaIN.cz, after the fall of Petr Nečas's government in 2013 she seriously considered whether to continue in politics. [6] In the Senate elections in 2020 she won in this district in the second round with 63.96 percent of the votes, and Václav Hampl came second. [4] Nine candidates sought the vacated seat in the Prague 1 district, and the writer Jiří Padevět of STAN advanced to the second round, where he will face Jan Čižinský of the Praha sobě group. [3] The second round takes place on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October 2026. [7] Nine candidates were the most of all Senate districts. [7] Jan Čižinský is the mayor of Prague 7. [7]
