Matěj Ondřej Havel is the chairman of the TOP 09 party.[1][2]
In the 2026 Senate elections, TOP 09 was defending two seats and aiming for a third in Prague 5, where Zdeněk Šarapatka was standing. Havel said of the elections that the point was not to hand the Senate of the Czech Republic over to Andrej Babiš, and called this the main goal, ahead of the party's own ambitions. At the municipal level he ruled out coalitions with the Communists and fascists, and in Prague he does not want a coalition with the ANO movement.[1] According to Havel, TOP 09's goal in the municipal elections is to increase the number of councillors, and possibly mayors. In Prague the party ran jointly with ODS. [1] Havel also said that TOP 09 rules out a coalition with SPD and the Communists, and in the second round in Prague 5 will probably support the ODS and STAN candidate Radko Sáblík. [4] Radko Sáblík and Václav Láska advanced to the second round in Prague 5. [5]
He reacted to the SPD movement's seminar in the Chamber of Deputies, at which former president Miloš Zeman spoke, with a critical statement about Zeman's attitude to collaboration.[3] Havel said that Zeman had schooled the hitherto inexperienced SPD MPs in the field of collaboration. The seminar was held in the Chamber of Deputies under the auspices of SPD MP Tomáš Doležal. [3]
Tomáš Třetina in Znojmo and Jan Grulich in the Rychnov nad Kněžnou district, where he faced only one opposing candidate, also wanted to defend their seats. [1]
