Mělník is a town in the Central Bohemian Region. Voter turnout in the municipal elections held in autumn 2026 reached almost 44 percent in the town, which remained below the average for the Central Bohemian Region of 48 percent[1].

Results of the municipal elections

The ANO movement won the highest share of the vote in the elections, but this did not secure it enough seats on the council to form the leading coalition[1]. The groupings ODS, MLK and Pro město also won four seats each[1]. The ODS party lost one seat compared to the previous electoral term[1]. The Mělničané grouping won three seats, while Mělník 2022 and Naše město each won one[1]. The ANO movement and its previous coalition partner ODS failed to form a new coalition, so both groupings moved into opposition[1].

New coalition

The coalition in the town was formed by the groupings Pro město, Mělničané and MLK[1]. They agreed that Ctirad Mikeš, who had previously held the position, would remain mayor[1]. Jindřich Špergl and Petr Volf are to become deputy mayors[1]. The town council is to have seven members, with Tomáš Vojta, Barbora Kettnerová, Michal Franěk and Jiří Rejman proposed as the other members[1].

Planned priorities of the new leadership

Regarding the programme priorities of the new coalition, Mikeš said that key points include upgrading the wastewater treatment plant and launching steps to transform Charles IV Square, which is to include the demolition of a structure called Hold dating from the socialist era[1]. The town's leadership also wants to examine alternative solutions for completing the Mělník bypass road, which is being built by the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic and whose construction has met resistance from residents in several places[1]. Other planned steps include preparing the reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool and outdoor pool, and developing field and care services[1].
