Ctirad Mikeš is the former mayor of Mělník in the Central Bohemian Region, whom the local new coalition has proposed to re-elect to lead the town after the municipal elections.[1]

Post-election negotiations

In the elections, four groupings each won four seats, among them the MLK and Pro město groupings, which together with the Mělničané grouping formed a new coalition.[1] The ANO party received the highest percentage of votes in the elections, but this did not secure it a higher number of seats on the council, and together with its previous coalition partner ODS, which lost one seat compared to the previous term, it is moving into opposition.[1] The Mělničané grouping took three seats, while Mělník 2022 and Naše město each took one seat.[1] Voter turnout in Mělník reached just under 44 percent, below the Central Bohemian regional average of 48 percent.[1]

Plan of the new coalition

The coalition partners agreed that the new city council will have seven members. Besides Ctirad Mikeš as mayor, it is to include deputy mayors Jindřich Špergl and Petr Volf.[1] At the constituent meeting of the council, Tomáš Vojta and Barbora Kettnerová are to be proposed for MLK, Michal Franěk for Pro město, and Jiří Rejman for Mělničané.[1]

Policy priorities

Mikeš, as the likely future mayor, stated that key priorities include intensifying the wastewater treatment plant and beginning steps toward rebuilding Charles IV Square, including the demolition of the Hold building, which he described as a dilapidated structure from the socialist era.[1] According to its plans, the new city leadership also wants to examine alternative solutions for completing the Mělník bypass road, which is being built by the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech Republic and which in some places has met with resistance from residents.[1] Other priorities are said to include preparing the reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool and outdoor pool, and developing outreach and care services.[1]
