In Mělník, a new coalition of the groupings Pro město, Mělničané and MLK has reached an agreement after the 2026 municipal elections. Ctirad Mikeš is to become mayor again after four years, and Jindřich Špergl and Petr Volf are to be deputy mayors. The partners want to sign the coalition agreement by the end of the same week.[1][2]
Election result
The election in Mělník ended narrowly: ANO, ODS, MLK and Pro město won four seats each, Mělničané three, and the groupings Mělník 2022 and Naše město one each. ANO had the most votes, and ODS lost one seat compared with the previous state of affairs. The previous coalition partners ANO and ODS did not form the new coalition and will go into opposition. Turnout was almost 44 percent and remained below the Central Bohemian Region average of 48 percent.[2]
The city council and the coalition's priorities
The city council is to have seven members. Besides the mayor and two deputy mayors, Tomáš Vojta and Barbora Kettnerová (both MLK), Michal Franěk (Pro město) and Jiří Rejman (Mělničané) are to be proposed at the inaugural meeting of the municipal assembly.[2]
According to Mikeš, the coalition's programme priorities include intensifying the wastewater treatment plant and the first steps toward the revitalisation of Charles IV Square, which are to begin with the demolition of the Hold building in the upper part of the square. The new leadership also wants to examine options for completing Mělník's road bypass, which is being built by the Road and Motorway Directorate and which has met resistance from local residents in several places. Also planned are preparations for the reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool and the open-air pool, and the development of field and care services.[2]
