Klára Sovová is a lawyer and businesswoman, leader of the Motoristé sobě movement and its candidate for mayor of the Capital City of Prague in the 2026 municipal elections.[1][2][3]
Professional and political career
According to Novinky, Sovová runs hotels in the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) and, in her own words, has run a law firm for 25 years. She twice unsuccessfully ran for a Senate seat, once for ODS, which she joined in 2020. By her own account she left ODS when the party began raising taxes, and then stopped paying membership fees.[3] iDNES.cz describes her as the owner of Luční bouda in Pec pod Sněžkou. According to the same website, she holds a share in the company Dekonta, which was a bidder for a contract for the disposal of chemicals in Šumava.[1]
Programme for Prague
Sovová proposes abolishing fares in Prague public transport for residents. According to the programme Česká jízda, running public transport costs Prague about CZK 26 billion a year, of which more than CZK 20 billion is subsidised from the city budget. She wants to cover the missing funds from the yields of city accounts.[2] She also wants to remove bike lanes and make the Magistrála and other main streets passable. She wants to move the completion of the Městský okruh to the construction site in 2028, whereas according to her some of its sections are planned to begin only in 2034.[2][3] In an interview she said she wants to use artificial intelligence to reduce bureaucracy at Prague City Hall and that she considers the work of Pražská developerská společnost unsuccessful.[2] She rejects closing the embankment by Charles Bridge to through traffic until the Městský okruh and the Prague Ring Road are completed.[3]
Public appearances
In the Superdebata of candidates for mayor, Sovová said that she owns a family house and, through companies, further flats. After a follow-up question she rounded their number to tens.[1] In an interview for the programme Česká jízda she was also asked about an alleged conflict of interest in connection with an army contract for the remediation of environmental damage, which concerns the company Dekonta, in which she is a shareholder.[2]
