Czech Television announced that from 2 November 2026 its ČT sport channel is to broadcast automatic closed captions around the clock. The news channel ČT24 already has an automated audio description of selected elements of the broadcast. The services are meant to make live news and sports coverage easier to follow for people with hearing and visual impairments.[1][2]

ČT24 has offered automatic closed captions around the clock since the beginning of 2026. The audio description, added in the second half of the year, reads out name captions and subtitles of foreign-language speech, and viewers can choose between two voice outputs.[1][2]

According to Hynek Chudárek, Director General of Czech Television, closed captions were available for 91.1 percent of programmes in the first half of 2026, programmes interpreted into sign language made up 7.1 percent, and audio description was available for 18.7 percent of programmes. Audio descriptions of pre-recorded programmes are prepared and edited by people, while artificial intelligence is used to produce the voice reading of the text.[1][2]
