On 20 October 2026, in the second round of a secret ballot, the Chamber of Deputies elected the presenter and creator of online programmes Jakub Jíra to the Czech Radio Council. He received 85 votes; at least 79 were needed for election. His rival, the former council chairman Miroslav Dittrich, received 69 votes. Jíra's six-year term began on the day of the election.[1][2]

Course of the vote

Deputies were choosing two council members from five candidates, because the terms of Ondřej Matouš and the historian Jaroslav Šebek, who did not run again, ended at the end of September. In the first round on 14 October, Matouš kept his seat with 137 votes. Jíra then received 78 votes and Dittrich 59, with 81 needed, and both advanced to the second round.[1][2]

The elected member

Jíra has presented, for example, on the television channels Óčko and Prima Cool. In 2024 and 2025 he recorded a podcast with the chairman of the Chamber of Deputies and of the SPD movement, Tomio Okamura. In spring 2026 he unsuccessfully ran for the Czech Television Council, where he did not make the shortlist. He then denied that his relationship with Okamura influenced his decisions.[1][2]

The Czech Radio Council

The council has nine members, six elected by the Chamber of Deputies and three by the Senate. It oversees the activities of the public-service radio, approves its budget, and appoints and dismisses the director general.[1][2]
